You have an idea and want to pitch it?
Dear Woman,
You and I know that the idea is not the problem. You have an idea, you believe in it so much, you see the need it solves but when it is time to tell someone about it, you are all over the place.
First of all, A business pitch is a presentation by one or more people to an investor or group of investors, though it can also be an email, letter, or even an impromptu conversation.
So to reel it back in and pitch your idea because YES! it is exceptional, follow the below steps!
Pitching Steps 101
-Less is more. Do not let your research own you. Understand your business in a way that you can explain it to someone on the road who has absolutely no idea what your industry is. Not only can you explain it to them, they can also understand.
-Do your research. Know who you are pitching to. Sometimes we get overwhelmed by the person we are speaking to because they are investors or bankers, or venture capitalists ; However before their title, they are human beings; flesh and blood like you. Do your personal and business research on them so that you can connect with them on a 'personal' level than a 'robotic' level.
-Remove I 'think I 'think' from your vocabulary. You are not expected to know what will happen tomorrow or the fate of your industry/business; however, having facts such as the percentage of women searching for organic baby food online or the figures of moms looking for age appropriate swimwear for their teenage daughters, show a sense of preparation from your end. Focus on Facts not Fiction.
-Learn the vocabulary: Keep abreast with what is happening in your industry. It would keep you ready and not catch you off guard if you have to pitch to someone you were not prepared for.
In summary, use the below to articulate your pitch.
Name of your business
What problem or opportunity have you identified?
What is your solution to this problem or how do you plan to capture the opportunity?
Which customer pain will you alleviate?
What is your vision of the business and why do you care?
What is your business model?
